
Struktury porównawcze – prefer, would prefer, would rather

W ostatnim wpisie na blogu mogliście zgłębić konstrukcje wyrażające życzenia z would rather, would sooner oraz would prefer to. Dzisiejszy wpis będzie kolejnym, w którym przyjrzymy się bliżej zdaniom z would prefer oraz would rather, ale w innym ujęciu, a mianowicie w porównaniach.
Porównując ze sobą dwie rzeczy lub dwie czynności możemy używać struktur z prefer, would prefer lub would rather. W ten sposób wyrażamy, że wolimy jedną rzecz od drugiej lub wykonywanie jednej czynności od drugiej.
Porównywanie dwóch czynności – prefer, would prefer, would rather z czasownikami:
I prefer doing something TO doing something else.
I prefer to do something RATHER THAN do something else.
I would prefer to do something RATHER THAN do something else.
I woud rather do something THAN do something else.

Do podanych wyżej struktur porównawczych możemy sformułować pytania.

Ad. 3 Would you prefer to live in a big city OR / RATHER THAN live in a small town?
Ad. 4 Would you rather live in a big city OR / THAN live in a small town?
Porównywanie dwóch rzeczy – prefer, would prefer, would rather z rzeczownikami:
Porównując dwie rzeczy ze sobą, mówiąc, że wolimy jedną od drugiej, używamy przyimka ‘to’:

Zadając pytania do powyższych zdań możemy użyć ‘or’ (lub) albo ‘to’ (niż, od):
