Vocabulary – New Year’s Eve
We’re preparing for New Year’s Eve which takes place on the 31st December. It’s the end of the year and the beginning of the New Year. New Year’s Eve is celebrated all over the world. It’s a very cheerful time for everyone.
In many countries people spend this magic time with their friends and families. They go to the balls and dances. For this occasion they choose smart and elegant clothes. Those parties are very popular so reservations have to be made earlier and admissions have to be paid in advance. Not everyone likes huge parties so some people prefer small parties in their apartments or in their friends’ houses. Another option to celebrate the arrival of the New Year is going to the concerts which are usually organized on the markets in bigger cities. Moreover, the fireworks shows take place at midnight and some of them are really terrific and fabulous.
At midnight people drink champagne and wish each other a happy New Year. There are also some typical traditions in some countries. For example in London the Big Ben traditionally announces the arrival of the New Year. New Year is also a good occasion to make New Year’s resolutions. Do you have any? Are you going to actually keep them this time? I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!
