Ilość i intensywność – Słownictwo angielskie (B2 First – FCE)

W poprzednim wpisie w ramach serii wpisów przygotowujących do egzaminu B2 First (FCE) opublikowałam słownictwo związane z opisywaniem przedmiotów. W dzisiejszym wpisie z kolei omówię:

  1. przymiotniki określające ilość,

  2. rzeczowniki opisujące ilość,

  3. total & totally

  4. utter & utterly, wholly.

3. Total & totally – B2 First (FCE)

Margaret was in total disbelief when she heard about her husband’s car accident.
Camp counsellors showed a total disregard for the safety of teenagers.
What was total expenditure on healthcare in Poland in 2025?


TOTALLY


Helen is totally different from her sister.
His offensive behaviour was totally unacceptable.
They were totally unaware of the consequences of the loan.
James arrived yesterday, which was totally unexpected.
This film is totally unsuitable for children.
His perspective on the matter was totally wrong.



4. Utter & utterly, wholly – B2 First (FCE)


UTTER


There was utter chaos at train stations when railwaymen started to go on strike.
The defendant showed utter contempt for the court.
His new business proved to be an utter failure.
What he was saying was utter rubbish.

Monica punished her boyfriend with utter silence.
I didn’t know my grandfather. He was an utter stranger for me.


UTTERLY


He was utterly confused by her behaviour.
Greg was utterly devastated when his wife passed away.
Differential equations were utterly incomprehensible for me.
It was utterly impossible to reach a compromise with such a tough negotiator.
His plan to propose to Alice was utterly ridiculous.
Driving 100 km/h in a built-up area was utterly stupid.
The task was utterly trivial.



WHOLLY = completely


He was wholly dependent on his parents when he studied in Paris.
This amount of money is wholly inadequate.
Everybody is wholly responsible for their actions.
Your negative attitude is wholly unacceptable.
