Names of family members in Polish tend to be confused. Fortunately, in English it’s much easier! Let’s take a look at a genealogical tree:

NIECE – siostrzenica, bratanica
NEPHEW – sisotrzeniec, bratanek
SISTER-IN-LAW – szwagierka
BROTHER-IN-LAW – szwagier
MOTHER-IN-LAW – teściowa
FATHER-IN-LAW – teść
MOTHER-IN-LAW + FATHER-IN-LAW = IN-LAWS – teściowie
DAUGHETR-IN-LAW – synowa
SON-IN-LAW – zięć
